New Years in New York! 2013 Edition, Part 2

Today being New year’s eve, we had a big day ahead of us so it was only right we started off with a proper breakfast.  We got a classic lox and cream cheese on toasted bagel at a local diner called Georgio’s Country Grill.  The cucumbers were a nice addition that helped tone down the saltiness of the smoked salmon.   Our first stop was the Rockefeller centre.  The hoards of people hungry to get a close up of the ball drop were already evident as we got closer and closer to Time Square.  The area around Rockefeller is densely rimmed with stores.  We popped in Magnolia Bakery which was packed and for a good reason. They had some yummy looking cupcakes and confectionaries.  We tried a chocolate dipped coconut macaron.  I don’t even like those things and I still thought it tasted so good.  The ginormous Christmas tree in the centre of Rockefeller overlooking the skating rink just below.  You can eat at a cafe there which will give you a really nice view …

New Years in New York! 2013 Edition, Part 1

Last year we hit up New York to ring in the new year, and we’re doing it again for 2014.  There was so much to see and do last year and it felt extremely rushed.   This time, hitting up the city’s best eats was on the top of my list.  We stopped by the city of Scranton on our way to Manhattan where we were pleasantly surprised by the friendly locals and the food they had to offer.  As suggested by our concierge, we visited a family owned Italian restaurant for dinner called Russel’s.  Seafood was on our minds and they had some pretty good entrees.  I had shrimp with scallops on top of citrus infused jasmine rice.  The seafood was very tender and juicy and the rice had a very distinct lemony flavor which was interesting.    K had the biggest portion of fish with a generous topping of crab and lobster meat on top.  Overall the meal was very satisfying 🙂   The next day we set out for Manhattan and stopped …
